Create your custom board up to 25 × 25

Scrabboard Solver ·

Does your word game use a different grid or scoring rules? Scrabboard Solver adapts to your board configuration up to 25 × 25. Create a model in the app, place its premium squares and adjust the scores, then select it to find moves suited to your game.

From 3 × 3 to 25 × 25, a grid that fits your game

Each dimension must be odd, from 3 to 25. Choose rows and columns separately: rectangular boards such as 11 × 15 are supported too. The configurator defines the layout and rules; the letters in a game position and the dictionary are separate choices.

Your dimensions

Reproduce a small grid, a rectangular board or a large 25 × 25 board. Save several models for your games.

Your premium squares

Place double-letter, triple-letter, double-word and triple-word squares. Use horizontal and vertical reflections or edit every square freely.

Your scoring rules

Set the bonus for playing all your tiles and the letter scores by language. The solver uses the rules of your selected model.

Configure your board in the app in six steps

These educational illustrations in English show a “My 11 × 11 board” example, not a supplied model or Android screenshots. Tap a figure to view it full size.

  1. Open the configurator

From the Scrabboard Solver home screen, open Options → Preferences → Custom boards → New custom board.

A new model starts at 15 × 15 with no premium squares, symmetry enabled and a 50-point bonus for 7 letters. Letter scores use classic values.

Example: opening the configurator from preferences.
  2. Choose dimensions and rules

Enter a Board name with 1 to 40 characters. Choose odd Rows and Columns from 3 to 25. Set Letters for bingo to 7, 8 or 9, then Bingo bonus to 0–100 points in steps of 5.

Keep Horizontally and vertically symmetric board enabled if your grid has both symmetries. Tap Configure squares. The letter threshold controls the bonus; it is not a freely adjustable rack size.

Example: 11 rows and 11 columns; the dimensions may differ.
  3. Place premium squares with symmetry

Choose DL, TL, DW or TW in the palette, then tap a square. None removes its premium. With symmetry enabled, edit the upper-left quarter including the centre row and column: the other squares are filled by reflection.

Reflected squares appear paler and cannot be edited directly. The star marks the centre starting square; it adds no bonus by itself. Explicitly place a centre premium if your rules require one.

Symmetric example: the dashed outline is an educational annotation.
  4. Create a free layout — optional

Return using Settings, disable Horizontally and vertically symmetric board, then open Configure squares. You can now edit every square independently.

Keep symmetry if it fits your game. Re-enabling it after free editing recalculates reflections from the upper-left quarter: check the resulting grid.

Example without symmetry: each square can have its own premium.
  5. Adjust letter scores — optional

In board settings, open Letter points and choose Language. Enter whole numbers from 0 to 50; a blank tile stays at 0. Settings are separate for French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil).

The dictionary selected for your game determines which scores are used. Language in the points editor does not change that dictionary. Restore classic values for this language resets only the displayed language’s changes.

    Arbitrary French example: M = 4 instead of 2 and Q = 10 instead of 8.
  6. Save, then select on the home screen

Tap Save and wait for Board saved. Your model appears in your Custom boards library.

Return to the home screen and choose its name in the Custom boards group of the board selector. Check the dictionary, then start a new position before entering letters or analysing an image.

Saving a model does not select it automatically. Choose it on the home screen before using it.

Example: the library and home-screen selector are two separate views.

DWDouble word: word value × 2.
TWTriple word: word value × 3.

Analyse an image with your model

Select your model first, then use a photo or screenshot matching its dimensions and premium layout. The letters on your rack tiles are recognised automatically when the tiles are visible anywhere below the board in the image. Depending on recognition, you may need to adjust the corners or correct the board and rack; a solution is not always found.

Your model also works with Solution (latest image). Separately authorise your screenshot folder and wait for an image to be detected, then start the search from the home screen with the correct model selected.

Find, edit or delete your models

In Options → Preferences → Custom boards, use Edit then Save to update a model, or Delete and confirm to remove it. Deleting a model does not delete your phone’s photos. A position already in progress keeps its existing rules: start a new position to use an edited model.

Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting

Can I reproduce any board size?

You can choose any combination of odd dimensions from 3 to 25, square or rectangular. The current configurator does not offer even dimensions.

Why does the new grid have no premium squares?

A new model does not copy the classic board: all squares start without premiums. Place your game’s premiums. The centre star only marks the starting square.

How do I remove premiums?

Choose None and tap the square; with symmetry enabled its reflections change too. Reset clears all premiums after confirmation without restoring a classic board.

What happens when I reduce the dimensions?

Squares are recentred. If premiums fall outside the new grid, confirmation is requested. Cancel to keep them or confirm and check the smaller board.

Why is my board name rejected?

The name must contain 1 to 40 characters after trimming outer spaces. Each model needs a unique name: changing only letter case is not enough.

Why are my custom scores not being used?

Set scores for the language corresponding to the dictionary selected on the home screen. Each language keeps its own values; a blank always scores 0.

Why is my model missing or marked “must be corrected”?

Check it has been saved and look for its name under Custom boards on the home screen. An older model with even dimensions needs valid odd dimensions and must be saved before use.
